Lista completa de las especies de aves que se encuentran en las costas uruguayas del océano Atlántico y orillas del río de la Plata, o sea, desde la frontera con Brasil hasta las desembocaduras de los ríos Paraná y Uruguay, con breves notas sobre su identificación, costumbres y migraciones. Se incluyen también las aves que frecuentan las numerosas lagunas y bañados de la costa. La mayoría de las aves costeras uruguayas que se mencionan son especies sedentarias. Casi todos los chorlos (Charadrii) mencionados y dos especies de Gaviotines (Sterninae), crían en Norteamérica y visitan la costa uruguaya en verano (que corresponde al invierno en Norteamérica). Los pingüinos, petreles, el Biguá de vientre blanco, dos chorlos, la Paloma de mar, algunas gaviotas y gaviotines y tres especies de Passeriformes, son visitantes de invierno en la costa uruguaya; nidifican principalmente en el extremo sur del continente o en las islas antárticas.
This is a complete list of species found on the Uruguayan coasts of the Atlantic Ocean and the La Plata river, that is, from the Brazilian border to the mouth of the Paraná and Uruguay rivers, with short notes on their fieldmarks, habits and state of migration. Birds frequenting the numerous coastal lagoons and reedbeds, are induded. The majority of the mentioned Uruguayan shore·birds are sedentary breeding species. Most of the mentioned plovers (Charadrii) and two species of terns (Sterninae), breed in North America and visit the Uruguayan coast in summer (which is the North American winter) .The penguins, petrels, the King shag, two plovers, the Sheath·bill, some gulls, hnd terns and three passerine species are winter visitors on the Uruguayan coast and breed chiefly in the extreme South of the continent or on the Antarctic Islands.
