Abstract:
The strainscope is based on a simple optical system of coupled astigmatic lenses producing simultaneous 'shortening' and 'stretching' in orthogonal directions within the plane of the lenses. The technique is applicable to objects of known original shape, and can be used for determining original shape when finite strain is known. It is a handy tool, easy to manipulate, of very simple construction and can be used for educational purposes. © 1989.
