Abstract:

Mass transfer coefficients between a wall and a bed of fluidised particles have been measured by the electrochemical technique using solutions of potassium ferro-ferricyanide. Some of these solutions exhibited non-Newtonian properties owing to the addition of carboximethylcellulose. A single equation is developed to correlate results obtained with Newtonian and non-Newtonian solutions. The correlation includes generalised dimensionless groups for fluid-particle systems and covers a wide range of Schmidt and Reynolds numbers and porosity. © 1981.
